Got confirmation of reality of profile n2, and that she's talking to me, still one pfishy though. The agency of number 2 is known for some minor wrongdoing (no fraudulent impersonation or anything, rather illigit use of pictures), but there is at least one post on an independant site where a guy confirmed that he met his wife through them. Now that doesn't mean that I will get to meet any of them, but who knows ...
Kurt, I think I know a possible reason why the ladies have disappeared. Some agencies only take a small amount of money to put a womans profile online, but they sign a contract to pay a success fee when the spouse Visa arrives after marriage, several thousand USD sometimes ... either they couldn't get out of the contract, and it's usually the husband who is asked to pay this, or ...
... they just didn't like you :P
... they found a chineses boy friend, usually much preferred and more easily accepted by the family.
Chinese women should marry before they're 30 years old, otherwise they are considered a low life by their countrymen. Marrying a longnose (us) is not well accepted in many families, but if they missed the train, then that's better than nothing. Be sure to realize that. Some are also attracted by the western way of life, but I think it's a minority on the dating sites. On the other hand, a divorced woman could have good reasons to look abroad, and is socially less inclined to be disrepected. Just know that in both cases, they will be very motivated to marry you, we want to be loved, and most will make a good wife, something that comes from their culture, but whether they will ever love us is in the stars.
Realize too that this is not a web-dating service but an International Marriage Broker, even if the disguise would suggest otherwise. The thing is, women with low or no English don't go online to date by themselves but use a translator, so you'll rarely find a perfect English speaker on there. Apparently an external local translator costs about 2-3 USD per letter, so having the man pay through Chnlove & agency is easier for them in the end, don't forget a teacher makes $130/month with food and lodging, a good factory job pays maybe $250, and office work is not necessarily better. Most ladies registering with the agencies come from lower or middle class at best, the upper class chinese girls can be found on the free sites like dateinasia, but good luck catching one, and prepare for a spoiled princess if you're getting married, especially if they're from Zheijian.
For the others, paying $2-3 each translation is a big no-no. Also people with good English make way more money than others, and there are surprisingly good translators sometimes, not all but still, and they have to get paid too. I find the business model of Chnlove acceptable as long as they're honest, and I can't judge that yet.
Also expect to pay more when you get to see the desired one, the site fees are the tip of the iceberg in some cases ... again, money is strong in Chinese culture, we think we're getting ripped off, they're actually just more sneaky and persistent than us. Except for fraud of course!
So know what you're paying for, and keep in mind that the lady might simply not like you even if you paid a lot of money to write to her.
Sur ce, bons baisers de la France and I'll be back with more when I have it!
