I can understand why some guys think this is a scam. However, it varies from agency to agency and woman to woman. I tried it out back in February, 2011. I sent 4 responses, got 4 admirers back. Of course I received the standard beautiful photos and was quite intrigued. I was looking for a woman between the ages of 36-45. I am 51. I wouldn't describe myself as totally handsome, but I keep in shape and decided after many American girlfriends, one expensive divorce, two kids, I don't want a younger gal to deal with, Chinese or otherwise. So, I start the conversing. And, the process of elimination.
I quickly learned to read the forum posts by other guys. I took the advice. One woman was different, though. She emailed me right away from her yahoo account. She sent a number of pictures of herself and her 11 year old daughter, her home, etc. Her pictures on Chnlove were breathtaking...really beautiful. Bu, she said, " You need to come to China soon.." She is in Chengdu. I told her i had a work contract that was until the end of the year. So, after that the contact was sporadic, while the contact with another was consistent....But, it was through the agency in Guilin. The gal in Guilin, well, I had her phone number, sent her flowers, and then she gave me her email....Then, all of this stopped. Why? I could tell I was being gamed a little. Some of the letters were from her, but some were from the translator. That is what happens.
So, then my gal from Chengdu starts writing me again after a brief hiatus. She says that we should get on the webcam. Being the curious guy i am and suspecting since it doesn't cost me anything, I will do that. WOW! This woman looks much better than her pictures. She is 40, but could pass for 30 easily. Her English is good, she is bright, funny, loving and we get on the webcam every day....It's been almost two months now..Every day...Never less than two hours.
I am going to China at the end of the year, and we are making promises we both want to keep.
It is a big undertaking, but, guys.....do it right, and you can find the right woman. You can't bullshit when you see someone time and time again right in front of you...It is either there, or it isn't.
She is absolutely the most beautiful woman I could imagine....
So, a word from the wiser...Get them on the webcam as soon as possible. If they don't or can't, you are putting your trust in the agency and that may very well prove fruitless. My gal has told me all the things that go on with the agencies and fortunately she was smart enough to circumvent the process with the help of the particular agency in Chengdu. Go..go to Chengdu. The women are beautiful, the agency is good...Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

How do you know which agency is good and which one is just looking to make money? What was the name of the agency that you went through?
It sounds to me that all the people on this string wanna something for free.... no problem with that..... but you get what you pay for......and the agency does make it easier.... I am speaking from experience ....... are you........

Good it worked for you but nobody really needs to go through the medium of any agency to meet a genuine Chinese woman there are 10's of thousands of them and they are all keen to learn English.
There are too many bad stories here and elsewhere about chnlove.

okay fellas here is my update..... I just returned from china. I do not know about all the sites you visited with China love, but the one I visited in Chengdu was awesome.
Everything was as written in my letters to the lady. She was just as beautiful in person as the photos. I was not charged any type of fee from the agency besides the fee used for their interpreter. The fee was 50 rmb an hour. Which translates to 7 dollars an hour in american. Which is a fair price. I have a friend that works as a translater in San Diego and she makes much more then that.
I had a great time in Chengdu for two full weeks. There was no scam. Just good people happy to do a great job. The customer service was fantastic and I would recomend this agency to anyone SERIOUSLY looking for a bride from China. I will return in December and hopefully she will agree to marrying me.
I did speak with the manager of this Chengdu agency several times. Her name is Ms. Fu. She told me that there are some agencies that are more interested in making money then matching people, but they are getting few and far between. I feel she was very honest with me and was very helpful.
My girlfriend did not have to pay a fee. The company makes its money from the money the men pay for their letters. While I was in the agency office there were five interpreters working on the letters.
I do not know how you approach the agencies that you have had bad experiences with, but if you want a good honest agency search for the women that are in Chengdu. It is also a great place to visit and take a vacation.
