Sparks, I was sincerely hoping you'd be in China right now so you could enlighten all of us! Now I'm not sure if I should be depressed or happy? :D
I've lost count how many good gents here have gone optimistically, then you never hear back from them again. It must be the Chnlove Blackhole of doom. lol.
Luke, at least, managed to give us a Chapter 1 to his unfolding story. Then, nothing. I hope Coucou arrives safely and can report back. From what you wrote, I thought there might be a chance you'd be travelling to China. And, that's probably the only circumstance I would recommend anyone going - i.e., if they had plans to go anyway.
I have used Babel Translator. Way back when, I even tried to see if I could find other pages on w w w about it, but one problem was that 'chnlove' is not re-written in Chinese, they use the English representation, so google just returns the same results ...
I will 'third' what Harold and you both posted: 25% return on hit-miss is not a legitimate biz, imho, it is a scam or lottery at best. I don't have time to argue with the scammers, so what I advise is everybody is: knowing you are not getting the truth from Chnlove, your best expenditure is to simply make contact with as many potential 'ladies' and limit your initial 'investment' - both financial and emotional. Why? Because pouring your heart out to a translator or a person who is going to be receiving that Crash Course on Your Next Guy when you get to China would be pointless, never mind the possible linguistic barriers, uncertain 'chemistry' etc etc, you'd have to start when you get there in person.
Pfishy and other links have indeed done a great job of educating folks, they are even cited on other sites as Harold mentioned. But now I see they are getting around this by setting up their own 'extension' to the Chnlove Board, and, against my better judgment, I am reluctant even posting it here.
The nonsense I have read would make your hair turn colour. To explain inconsistencies, they will often advise folks things like, "don't ask that, they will 'loose face'" or "you need to trust your woman or how do you expect to have a relationship"?
I got fed up, so I asked my Chinese colleague some of the things and he started laughing, asked how well I knew the Chinese culture? :-q He said, yes, things like 'losing face' were embedded in Old Culture, then he asked, "You are also aware that a lot of the citites have modern hotels now, don't you?" lol.
So, when I read a post where a guy experienced a similar situation like mine ('lady' told him she lost her cell phone, couldn't call him), and was given a lame line about it being not nice to question Chinese because it would embarrass them etc., I had to shake my head. If that's not being an apologist for a fraudulent (or at very least, incompetent, or uncaring) company, not sure what is. :D
Sending the ladies your emails in Chinese would not help you avoid the costs, Sparks. Both my colleague and I tried this - we have a female colleague from work who is also Chinese, she knows how to write Chinese, not just speak - but we were given various answers by the ladies. One said that she need to use the EMF because she had 2 jobs and it was hard to use a computer (same lady who said she lost her cell phone, by the way).
My personal opinion is that Chnlove could probably make some serious cash the honest way, but only if they were willing to be an honest company. Many guys here have said they would pay real money if they knew what they were really getting. And it's not like Chnlove is not aware of this. Like you said, they do monitor this site, as, apparently, other 'supporters' of Chnlove.
It's a shame that we can't communicate further in private because I could probably exchange more information without worrying about how the scammers will use it to re-invent their scam already in place.
I was thinking of going to China (strictly for pleasure) in 2009, but not so sure anymore. One thing I wanted to leave you Sparky - if you are searching for that demographic that doesn't entail 20s-and-giggly, I thought you'd actually have a chance at the few real ladies that might exist on Chnlove. But failing that, do you have any colleagues or friends who are Chinese?
The reason I ask is that I'm using all my networks, I don't even count Chnlove as a major one anymore (obviously), but my Chinese colleague has been very helpful - Just ask if they know of singles who are still in China and see if they can provide some initial hook-up? There's no guarantee of a mutual match but it sure makes things easier without having to have worry about other things like being turned upside down and having your pockets emptied.
There's also the Chinese Alliance churches in North America, so if you do have a neighbour or two who attends, ask around. You sound like a good guy, I don't think you'd have a probably getting suggestions or recommendations.
Still waiting to hear from Sky and the others ... hope they didn't get sucked into the Blackhole, too. lol ;)
