Thanks Sparky, you about sum it up! I would just add: try to get proof that the lady is really talking to you, and not some translator. It's of course no guarantee, but it avoids arriving in China and meeting someone who knows nothing about you, if you manage to meet at all that is.
To be honest, the only real risk for me is the Chnlove fee and maybe some internal China travel, I go for business anyhow.
Anyone else be careful, some people seem to have wasted thousands without result, allthough I'm sure the sightseing was great, with a broken heart :(
